Festa di Santa Marina - Ruggiano (en)
Festa di Santa Marina - Ruggiano (en)

Solemn celebrations in honor of Santa Marina are held annually between the 16th and 17th of July in Ruggiano, a small fraction of Salve. Religious celebrations commence in the eve of the feast with a solemn procession from the church of Santa Marina, located on the outskirts of the town, leading the statue of the saint through the streets of Ruggiano, depicted with a hammer in her hands and a dragon under her feet. At the end of the procession, the statue of Santa Marina halts in the churchyard for the traditional blessing of the children. During the evening the party continues among the colored lights, stalls and a concert of folk music in the square. On the feast day itself, there are the liturgical celebrations in honor of the Saint and band concerts.
Salve

historical information:
Ruggiano, with the sanctuary dedicated to Santa Marina, has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries. Here rushed and flocked those who are suffering from jaundice, formerly called 'bad arc' because it was believed responsible for the rainbow disease. Tradition demanded that the pilgrims, before reaching Ruggiano, had to stop near an arc to urinate while reciting a sort of prayer. Then, once in the square of the Sanctuary, they bought the "zigareddhe", the traditional colored ribbons that once rubbed against the wooden statue of the saint is believed to prevent the dreaded disease. The 'zigareddha' of Santa Marina is yellow, because a diseased liver results to a yellowish discoloration of the skin.
