The abbey is an ancient monastery complex of the IX century, later incorporated within a fortified farm complex.
Only ruins and parts of walls remained of the original structure. The highly preserved part is the dovecote tower, located at a short distance from the abbey and still in the countryside.

historical information:
There is very few information on the foundation of the abbey, but it should be included among the numerous religious foundations by the Eastern monks back in their time in Salento.
The earliest records of the monastery date back to the fourteenth century. We know some of the events of this century and the succession of abbots. Over time the Abbey became a major center of culture, from which manuscripts and precious codes were produced and later became a big farm complex.
The situation, already unstable in the XV-XVI century due to pirate raids and the continuous divisions and invasions of lands in the surrounding estates, was getting worse with time until the complete abandonment of the structure.
A folklore recounts of an episode in 1536, when the abbot of Myth bought for "the monastery two Moorish slaves", who were experts in magic and enchantment; they were imprisoned for this reason and eventually died and were buried in the convent cemetery. Since then, apparitions and noises such as shouting and cries at night have been reported, which are attributed to the two evil servants, who died without sacraments.
